‘First Time Ever’ on Radio 2

Thanks to the lovely Janice Long who played ‘First Time Ever’ by Broadcaster featuring Peggy Seeger twice on her BBC Radio 2 show last week.  As well as giving a lot of background about the track, she said: “It’s a fantastic track, I love it.”

And Chris Hawkins at 6 Music has said that he’ll be playing it a lot in July on his morning show.  We’re very happy about that.

Broadcaster & Peggy Seeger collaborate on genre-defying new release

Even for a genre-defying experimental musician like Broadcaster, reinventing a classic song is nothing if not challenging. When you’re working with folk legend Peggy Seeger for whom the song was written, Broadcaster could have been forgiven for avoiding it altogether.

‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’  was originally written by Ewan MacColl for the 21-year-old Peggy in the early days of their courtship. In the intervening 55 years, it has been covered by over 60 artists from Roberta Flack and Elvis, to Johnny Cash and Leona Lewis. Peggy regularly sings it at her concerts, but she was open to new ideas and the result is the single First Time Ever (out July 2nd), with Peggy’s poignant vocals laid against dub, groove and techno beats.

Add an inventive and original video into the mix and this is the amazing result:

Welcome to two new artists

We’re delighted to announce not one but two new additions to the Red Grape Management roster.

Black (aka Colin Vearncombe)

We’ve been a very long time admirer of Black (remember the classic ‘Wonderful Life’?).  Red Grape’s Calum MacColl has worked with Black on a number of live and studio projects over the years, including studio album ‘Between Two Churches’, recorded in South Africa.  Now Black is back writing a new album and in the meantime planning a headline UK tour for October 2012. We’ll announce the dates here very soon.  In the meantime, watch a recent performance here:

Liz Lawrence

Liz Lawrence is one of those rare young artists who is both a mesmerising performer and a talented songwriter.  Still only 21 and with her publishing already signed to Sony/ATV, her debut album ‘Bedroom Hero’ is out in Ireland and pending a full worldwide release.  A recent 3 track live EP ‘Live at No. 82’ has just been released on the Young & Lost label, showcasing her great voice and ability to write instantly memorable songs.  Here’s the official video for the deeply addictive ‘Oo Song’:
